Make sure you have engineering, goblin jumper cables are about all a hunter is good for. Especially since the up'd the sucess rate on them.

A hunter without jumper cables is like peanut butter without Jelly

Oh and if you do that take mining, you will need it for some of the engineering mats

Here's some good choices:
Skinning+Mining (moneymaking)
Skinning+Herbalism (moneymaking)
Skinning+Leatherworking
Mining+Engineering (jumper cables )
Herbalism+Alchemy

there isn't really a "best", in my opinion.

my favorites for a hunter has to be either herb/alch or skinning/herb.

Duke makes a really good point with engineering, wipe + feign + cables = win!
