Default Full WoW Addon Guide- By AK

In this guide I will explain where to get addons, how to install the addons and what type of addons do what.

First things first. I will give some sites that are good for World of Warcraft addons. These sites are all trusted by most addon makers and addon users.
www.Curse.com
http://wowui.incgamers.com/
www.wowinterface.com

A few other sites for general WoW info.
http://wow.allakhazam.com/
www.thottbot.com
www.worldofwarcraft.com

How to install a(n) addon!
Step 1 - Find the addon you want to download / use. ( we will be download X-perl interface addon for the guide purpose )
Step 2 - Download the addon and save it to a place you will be able to find / get to easily. ( I usually save to my desktop or shared documents folder, but it is all up to you on that one )
Step 3 - Extract the zipped up addon. The addon should be zipped up. ( To unzip it i suggest using WinRar. Downloaded from WinRars website http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm )
Step 4 - The addon folder should look something like this

Step 5 - Open up your World of Warcraft folder. Once it is open you should see a folder called "Interface". Open that folder up. Inside your "Interface" folder there should be a folder called "Addons".
Step 6 - Take all the contents from the X-perl folder and drag them into the "Addons" folder.
Step 7 - Open up WoW and configure the addon so that it fits your likings. If you do not know how to do this, read the intstructions on from the place you downloaded the addons from. Or ask here at RPGFORUMS.COM

What addons are there they I may like to use?
There are hundreds of thousands of addons out there, each of them doing different functions. First we will start with some addons I have heard of / personally used.

Map Addons
1. Atlas - A map addon that shows the flight paths / dungeon locations / full areas. Useful if you don't care about exploring on your own. Also shows dungeon maps. Imporves your maps greatly.
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/354/

2. Atlasloot Enhanced - Shows the loot drops from bosses in instances. Only useable with Atlas addon or else it does nothing.
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/2983/

3. Metamap - A map addon that gives you a moveable map. You can have full are exposed, or have it so it only shows what you explored. Also has dungeon maps.
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/1978/

4. Cartographer - Another lightweight map addon that shows full maps, instances and all. It also tracks herbs and minerals.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/4947/

5. Simple minimap - Moveable minimap, that also has shows cords. Allows changable minimap skins. Circle, square, corner styler. Also has a compass!
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/3118/

Interface Addons
1. X-perl UnitFrames - Userframes addons that changes the style of your character / target / party / monster frames. It also has targets target mod which will show you who your target is targeting ( very useful for tanking ). You can change the colors of your health, mana, energy and rage bars. The size of the frames and the space between your parties frames.
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/3416/

2. Grid - A nice raid/party unit frame. It puts all the people in the party and/or raid into a box of a bunch of little squares. A square for each member of the party/raid. Very useful for healing in raids and buffing.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/9503/

3. MobInfo-2 - Shows the health and/or mana. The type of monster class. The amount of times you've killed that type of specific mob. The amount of EXP you gained from the last kill of that type of mob. The average coin drop.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/1349/

Inventory Addons
1. ArkInventory - I personally swear by this inventory addon. This makes all your bags into one bag so there is none of that click each bag to open them all. It allows makes it so you can see what is in your bank. You can't take out / move around any of the items in your bank, but it still shows you what is in there!
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/5539/

2. OneBag - Makes all your bags into one bag, simple and small.
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/1295/

3. SellValue - The name defines it's self.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/52/

ActionBar Addons
1. Bartender - Adds moveable action bars ( the bars your skills / food / potions go on ). This addon lets you change the size and the way the bars go ( vertical or horizontal ). It allow lets you change the padding ( space ) inbetween the buttons.
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/5653/

2. Bongos2 - Another type of bar addon
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/2003/

3. CyCirled - This is not really a addon that does anything important, but it makes your bars look cool as heck. They change the color to what ever you want and you can change the shape and style of the bars like if they are round or square.
( No link, I was not able to find a link, sorry guys you have to google it yourself )

4. Titan Panel - Adds more bars to your screen. 1 or 2 bars to the bottom or the top of your screen.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/618/

Quest Addons
1. Light Headed - This addon adds a table to your quest log that will give you info / comments people have made about the addon.
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...ghtHeaded.html

2. MonkeyQuest - As the info says on curse. Displays the quest and their objective in a smooth moveable frame.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/3978/

3. QuestLevel - Displays the level that is best for doing the quest.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/5210/

Buff Addons
1. Paladin Bubbles - This addon puts all your buffs / heals / food onto a nice compact sphere. It lets you edit it so it shows only buffs, only heals or only food or any of those options intertwined.
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/9370/

2. Paladin Greater Buffmod - Useful for when you are using greater buffs. instead of clicking on a character to buff, you just hit the class symbol in the moveable bar.
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/9370/

Fubar Addons
What is Fubar you may be asking? Fubar is a type of addon by a specific designer. They are lightweight and VERY helpful.
Fubar 2.0 - This is what activated fubar addons. It is needed to use the fubar addons. It also provides a nice bar at the top and/or bottom of the screen that your addon displayers will go ( instaed of having a hundred of them all around your minimap)
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/5210/

Fubar Dur - Displays the durability as a percentage.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/3058/

Fubar Money - Displays the amount of money on the Fubar screen bars.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/3059/

There are MANY fubar addons, but these are the only ones I use. For more check here --> http://wow.curse.com/downloads/search/?q=Fubar&g=1.

The addons in this guide are what I have used. There are many more, check out graedons addon list ( Graedon's mods ) or just check out the website for more.

On a final note- Yes I know there are MANY addons I have missed. But these are addons I HAVE TIRED AND LIKED. If I were to name all the addons on there the list would be endless. Here is a list of other addons you may want to look into, I wont be giving a description on these that is to detailed.

Ace addons. Their light weight and very very helpful.
Titan Panel - displays bags, xp needed to lvl, ammo, amount of +stats.
Auctioneer - Does exactly what the name says. It's an helpful auction addon that remembers prices and all that jazz.
Gatherer - Amazing ( or so I'm told ) for alchemy and mining
Huds ( Dhugs their also called ) - Show your life/mana/target life&mana in semi circle around your character.
Mortal Kombat SoundMod - Comical purpose only, other than that it's useless, but it's funny as hell.
Mailbox Complete - Just a mail helpful tool. If your a big auctioneer and you get mass mail coming in, this is for you!
KLHThreatMeter - The name expalins this, just shows who is holding the most threat in your party, most guilds that raid REQUIRE this addon, it's helpful for people who dps by the shit loads, making to much agro and the tank.

The best leveling addon is Mob Map in my opinion. Download both the addon and the database here: http://www.mobmap.de/

It puts little "?" buttons next to every specific mob that you have to kill and every item that you have to find for each quest in your log, and when you click it, it puts dots on your map where those monsters have been seen before (or if you need items from a certain mob, it brings up a list of monsters that have dropped the item, what percent of the time they have dropped it, and where that monster is). It is quite possibly the best addon in the world =]

Pretty nice however i cant believe that you havent mentioned Ace add ons, seeing as they are extremely good, they have little bugs and are updated almost every minute. They are also extremely easy to update, all you need is to download the Ace program and you have access to all the ace add ons in a simple program. It even installs them for you once you download them.

http://www.wowace.com/wiki/Main_Page

and the download link to the program (i highly recomend getting this)
http://www.wowace.com/wiki/WowAceUpdater

Also what about adding a list of class specific add ons?

I didn't see DOTIMER mentioned up there. Just a personal taste but as a warlock for so long i found it to be one of the most useful for upping my dps ( yet detrimental to my enjoyment because i was only paying attention to it.)

Nice guide. I like all the addons you mentioned too. What's funny is that you didn't mention CTMod. It's probably the most popular mod ever for WoW. I still use it, even though other mods seem to have taken its place...

I would also add Nature Enemy Cast Bar. As a caster, you can keep track of all your DoT's, all enemy casting, and for me (a mage) it tells me exactly when my sheep will pop. This is hugely important and has helped me significantly. Just a thought.

Like you said though, there are tons of addons out there, it's all about preference now, and how you want you UI to look.

I've found I don't like gatherer or the ones that go with cartographer, because they don't show you were there are currently nodes, only where they have been found in the past, so you still have to run around. In the end I prefer not having it clutter up my maps and I find stuff just fine.

How about QuestHelper, carbonite is popular too, I've used both and settled on QH, the vendor/trader in the subscribed version of carbonite comes in handy. But QH for sure, it's in the top rated on the curse add-on page forever, real popular and helpful.

I recently switch to arkinventory and love it, you no longer need to use "profession" bags, so if you have a herb bag that's not full the slots are available because you can seperate items with arkinventory. That's a major feature that you might want to add to the description. The only drawback in the inability to save a profile for each toon seperatly. I reset mine for my warrior who is a tank with Chant/mining and when I hopped back on my mage it was all reset the other way. So you have to keep all your toons in mind while setting what items you want in which slots.

And a note to remember, especially new people, ALWAYS read the comments on an add-on, it might give you a good idea as to whether it's working with latest patch, or if there's an updated version on another site etc.
