OMFG i'm moving out
Ok.....
so i was told the about a week ago that i had to start paying 200 a month for rent. That sort of pissed me off because now i'm going to be broke as hell all the time now, but i understand because my parent's arent doing too good with money right now so i put that aside and figured i would live with 200 less each month.
As a couple of you already know i've been thinking about starting up WoW again for a while now.... so i've been looking at computer pricing and i've come up with that what i'm going to buy is a 1000 dollar sager notebook....very high quality laptop in my opinion.
I asked my dad if it would be ok if i purchased a wired router and ran wire through the house in order to plug my computer in.(he doesn't want to have wireless....seems to think that it's less secure than wired internet somehow.
He tells me no and his reason is that he doesn't want me to be playing on a computer again like i used to....which frankly would be impossible because i'm at work what seems like 24/7 anyways and when i'm at home i'm relaxing in bed watching tv....like that's any better of a waste of time.
I've got to move out....asap. It's not even just because of the world of warcraft, but that's what pushed me over the edge, it's all the little things like not being allowed to go out and do stuff without being hounded with questions. I'M ALMOST 21 FOR CHRIST SAKE
I need to pay off about 1500 bucks in credit card debt, save up, buy the laptop that i want to buy, make sure with my boss that i'm garunteed at least full time and then move the fuck out. i should be on my own by christmas if everything goes according to plan...i'll be out of there sooner if i just kill myself though....

What do you do? I would pay off that debt before you think about moving out and hold off on playing wow and save your money till you find a stable place. Best way to get them off your back about going out is let them know where your going and when you think you'll be home and every so often give them a call and update them. They are your parents and care about what you are doing specially when you live under their roof regardless of your age. If you build up that trust they will ease off you and give you more room.
200/m is damn nice rent if you ask me!

If you plan on moving out I would hold off on the laptop for a bit.

Lol, you're almost 21 and WoW is what pushed you over the edge?
Yikes.
I'm gonna be moving out pretty soon, too, except it's because I want to.
Gonna be going to a community college in Santa Cruz with a couple friends and it should be pretty awesome.
Only thing is I've never had a job and I've been out of high school for over 6 months now, so it'll be a bit difficult transitioning from doing a whole lot of nothing most of the time to doing a shitload everyday.
But I'm fucking pumped for it.

Yea, you need to set some things right. Paying off the debt is good, but wasting money on a laptop when you want to move out is bad.
Pay off the debt, and save money, move out, get stable again, THEN think about the laptop.

For starters, suicide is a very serious thing and shouldn't be talked about lightly. If it was more than lightly, than you may want to talk to someone who you can confide in about it. Don't go down that road.
The X-Factor here is the computer - and WoW for that matter. From what you've said, it sounds like you are in Zero position to be purchasing a laptop in the near future. Let alone the fact that you want to move out. I've drawn from what you said that you've never lived on your own yet. You would not BELIEVE how expensive everything is. Not even just rent and bills and such. The little things kill... toilet paper, dish soap, paper towels, laundry, etc. etc. etc. that is all free when you live at home. If you want to move out, I recommend paying off the credit card, saving, and then moving out when you feel its right... and Not getting the computer until you've lived on your own for like three months. Then you'll know your finances better.
When you live with your parents still, rent IS dealing with their crap. I'm back home for the summer and I'm in the same boat man... they have say over me because they are paying for me.
On a side note, 200 a month rent is DIRT cheap Check out how much apartments are

Going away to college is one of the coolest things you can possibly do man. It'll be tough as hell but totally worth it. I'm going into year three and it's awesome.
It's never too late to get that first job and transition into being busy. You'll probably find you like it better

I wouldn't be too surprised they expect you to pay rent at almost 21 years old but thats just me. Have you considered maybe they hound you with questions because at the age of 20 without having had to pay rent you are in debt $1,500 and are planning on spending another $1,000 on a laptop? Idk your situation but from what you've told us you don't seem too responsible.
As for that last line about suicide I really hope your not serious, I wish my only concerns were being asked questions when I was going out and having to pay $200 rent.

I'll stand in his defense and if hes paying his parents rent to live there then as far as I'm concerned there should be no questions asked about anything he wants to do outside of the house. Or even what he does with his spare time around the house for that matter.
He's paying rent therefore by paying rent he shouldn't have to follow the strict ball and chain his parents used to have thats the point of paying rent.

Except they're his parents, not just his landlords. After keeping him in the house for twenty years free of charge, I'd say letting them know where he's going is literally the absolute least he could do.

Thank you! the first person that agrees with what i was saying.
The reason i'm in debt in the fist place is a long story but basically 2 years ago i spend 2 grand building a computer because i was pissed off at my dad for buying my mom a new laptop when that's exactly what i asked for for xmas and my computer at that time was a pile of shite. had it nearly paid off then i was unemployed for 5 months looking for a job that didn't work me saturday(religious thing enforced by my dad....)
so i had to spend money on credit cards and pay the minimum value each month with the 400 cash i had saved up from the job....gas in a car driving all over the craping place adds up quick.
so before you judge my irresponsibility know the facts...just saying, but since i made that post i've already reduced that figure to 1200 bucks
The reason that i'm so pissed about having to pay the 200 rent is becuase my dad told me that i couldn't hook up to his internet even if i paid for the router and for the montly internet bill.
i can rent a room basically 1 mile from my house(posting on craigslist) in someones home for 300 a month, free utilities, free laundry, free wireless high speed internet, my own personal bathroom, and walkin closet; they say the room is 23x15(i'm assuming it's the houses master)
that's just a comparison to the situation that i'm in right now. i barely ever eat my parent's food and as it is i pay for a lot of groceries all the time, all the gas i put in my car, my share of the phone bill +200 bucks on top of that for rent now.
i said at first that i didn't really mind the 200 rent becuase my parents needed money i was just mad about being nearly broke all the time, but when my dad told me no on the internet situation it pissed me off becuase i knew that stuff like this families home exist in the area...
Now what seems better to you guys? living at home and being grilled with questions, not being allowed to do what i want to do and still being stuck with a bill or putting 100 extra bucks on top of that and moving in with someone else and simply having to be quiet at night(which i do now as it is)
I'm still going to wait til my credit cards are paid off, and i'm going to save up for a computer(i'm going to need it for school anyways if i dont have my dads to use for that purpose) i'm going to move my ass out.
.

Sounds like there might be some underlining stuff we don't know but he also sounds religious with the whole no working on saturday bullshit.
You sound like you already have your mind made up so have fun.
