He's since deceased, but I guess the creator of Dungeons & Dragons should be credited for every RPG ever now.

Yes, people become inspired to create things.

Nothing is original anymore, so this is expected.

Well I guess you were EXACTLY right... /rollseyes

DnD came before Everquest, so I'm going to say if it wasn't for DnD, then Everquest would never have been anything good.

In fact, let's date it all the way back to the 19th century and say that these games wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Jury Box (look it up).

Diablo is an RPG too, so you can thank them as well instead of hating on WoW all the time.

Sony is a bunch of greedy fucks anyway, and I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to get some money out of it.

Is DnD a MMO game?

Sure, you can get whomever to play with you, but that usually requires asking around.

With EverQuest being a MMO, you only really need to ask around for a group, because once you get around level 20, you can't do ANYTHING alone unless you're a necromancer or something.

How many "popular" MMOs were around before EverQuest came into existance?

MMO's were all based off of RPG's... Even though WoW is a MMO, you can still do a lot of things that do not require a group at all. Sure, it's probably not as fun, but I know a lot of people who do it because they just don't have time.

DnD is a group game, and it always has been. You can't do anything in DnD without other people playing. EverQuest you also have to have a group past a certain level, as you stated. In WoW, I could go from 1-80 without joining a single group for anything. The majority of quests can be completed by yourself, and you don't need to do the quests that do require groups (even some of them can be done solo).

The reason WoW is so popular is because of it's backstory. It expanded on an already successful RTS, and it took the story from that.

You can't logically say that if EverQuest wasn't around, then WoW wouldn't be popular, because it's not like the story wasn't already there. Sure, it could have turned into another RTS, but they decided to go a different route. *It was obvious they were hinting to an RPG or MMO in The Frozen Throne, because they had heroes in that game that were somewhat customizable*

As Riku said, nothing is original anymore. DIII isn't original, D2 wasn't original, and neither was Diablo. There aren't any really revolutionary games coming out anymore, as most of it has been done already.

And why isn't Ultima Online being credited with this, since it was the one that actually made MMO's popular. There were many other MMO's before EverQuest and WoW, maybe not as popular (although Ultima Online was really popular). If anything give credit to the first game in the genre, not just the most popular.

Some people hate WoW for no real reasons.
